BUSK is a 30-minute solo performance that follows the unraveling of a busker on the Southbank of London. He will speak directly to the audience, as he does in a real busking set, and play original songs about the world around him. It is a dark and funny folk musical that explores how closely our identities as artists are tied to our financial success. What do we have to sacrifice in order to live? What’s the difference between an artist asking for strangers for money and a CEO asking people to invest in their company? Are we all buskers?
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Deborah is a Canadian playwright and dramaturg who just finished an MA in Dramaturgy and Writing for Performance at Goldsmiths University. She has written the book for several musicals and recently wrote the award-winning one-woman show BIG Sister.
Born in the UK, Connor Roff moved to the west coast of Canada at the age of eight. The budding musician moved back to London in 2014, although Vancouver’s urban centre and surrounding natural beauty continues to inspire his solo music. Connor is a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community and his songs often address themes of sexuality, toxic masculinity, and mental health.
